Morristown West High Band Superior Performance at Area Concert Festival

The Morristown-Hamblen West High Band performed at the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association Middle Area Concert Festival on Friday, April 1st at Farragut HS in Knoxville. Under the direction of Mr. Michael Thomas, the band played Walking Into History (The Clinton 12) by Richard Saucedo and March from Symphonic Metamorphosis by Paul Hindemith.
The music they performed was from a difficulty level of VI. According to The National Association for Music Education performance standards, level VI category music is the most difficult and is suitable for musically mature students of exceptional competence.
The band's performance was adjudicated by three festival judges, two of whom awarded West High Band the highest superior rating with the other judge awarding a rating of excellent. After the band's stage performance they played for the judges a piece of music which they had not seen prior to the festival. Again, they received a superior rating for their sight-reading to give them an overall superior rating.
This is the same band that lent it's community support to the recent dedication ceremony of the new terminal at the Moore-Murrell Airport. As guests and important dignitaries were being welcomed by the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce the band played numerous march tunes and officially began the ceremonies by proudly playing our National Anthem.
It is no wonder why so many Morristown West High parents, administration, faculty, students, and community members are so immensely proud of this band's achievements and community spirit.
The Morristown West High Band's next performance will be at West High on Sunday, May 1st beginning at 2:00pm along with performances by the West end 5th grade and middle school bands.

___________________________
"They"say 20% of the people do 80% of the work. From my experience with Church, Band, Dance, Cheerleading, etc this statement has been proven to be true.
I would like to challenge the parents, grandparents, etc of the 2010-2011 West High Band to change this statistic. Let's prove to everyone that we have 100% of the people doing 100% of the work.
To make the band successful, we need help from everyone.
With that challenge open, I would like everyone to prayerfully consider where they will best fit as a band volunteer. We have the following positions/needs open for volunteers:
Treasurer
Home Side Concession Managers
Shoppers for Concessions
Concessions Set up
Band Camp Organizer
Sportswear Order
Cash and Merchandise Donations
Party & Reception Coordinator
Uniform Repair and Alteration
Volunteer Coordinator
Concession volunteers
Chaperones for games, competitions, etc.
A band boosters chair person will be available during band camp at noon for questions.
I will be available July 14-16 most of the day at band camp.
I would also like to give a big hand to Lisa Harris, Connie Pope, Elizabeth Holingsworth, and Lisa Henderson for all their hard work in the past years. You don't know how hard they have worked until you walk in their shoes or try to fill their shoes!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 423/839-3585.
Kind Regards,
Dana Brandon
Webmasters Note: You can find a current list of board members, concession stand managers, committee chairs, and job descriptions on the Band Boosters Page of this website. Concession stand workers and chaperones sign up using the Volunteers Page (will be updated as soon as we receive new football schedule).

Coke Case Sale
Our final fund raising event for this year will be a Coke case sale. Blank order forms will be available on the information podium located in the Band room. You may make additional copies of the order form as needed.
The cost of each case is $15.00 including tax. 20 ounce bottles, 24 in a case - that comes to less than 63 cents per bottle!
Please be sure to complete one order form for each customer, indicating the customer’s name, address, phone number and number of cases sold for each type of drink. Do NOT put a check mark next to the type of drink, please indicate the quantity on that line. Also, please be sure to fill in the student’s name at the top of each form so we can give the appropriate credit to the student’s account.
The top and bottom portions of each form should be filled out exactly the same. Once complete, tear the form at the dotted line and give the bottom half to your customer once they have paid. Return the top half of the form WITH MONEY on April 29th to band booster member who will be there to collect.
The final date for turning in orders is April 29th 2010.
NO ORDERS CAN BE ACCEPTED AFTER THAT DATE.
Remember, each order form MUST include payment.
We will accept cash or checks (payable to MWHS Band Boosters). Also please make a note that all checks should have the band students name in the memo section.
The cokes will be distributed on Saturday, May 8, from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the front door of West High School. All coke products MUST be picked up that day and customers MUST present the bottom half of the order form to pick up their products. Any left over cases are returned to Coke, with no refunds given. Be sure that your customers are aware they MUST pick their cokes up during the distribution period!
Students will receive $2.00 credit in their band account for each case sold. This credit can be used for band related expenses, such as band camp or band trips for which there is a fee.
